In 1932, several people began meeting together for worship in the old Michigan Avenue School building, located on Michigan Avenue Road. On September 25, 1934, Michigan Avenue Baptist Church was organized with 12 charter members. The members continued to worship in the same school building until they could construct a new building..jpg)

In 1940, the members constructed a new church building across from the existing Michigan Avenue School. The building was a frame structure with stone foundation, and auditorium, including four classrooms and a full basement.
In April 1978, the church broke ground on Benton Pike to construct the present church building. The first service was on Dec. 10th, 1978. The church has a seating capacity of 200 with 14 Sunday School classrooms, offices, a library, choir room, nursery, and full basement for fellowship and additional Sunday School activities. The church parsonage was completed on Oct. 25th, 1972, and currently serves as a meeting place for the Church Youth Group.
As for the future of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, if it be the Lord's Will, the church plans to build a new building behind their current location adjoining Michigan Avenue Road. In 2006, the church purchased 10 acres directly behind the existing church building. Presently, the church is in a building campaign to construct a new church campuse for the purpose of worship, Sunday School, and fellowship. Our future church building will have an approximate 465-seat capacity for worship, 18 to 20 Sunday School classrooms, library, choir room, and a large fellowship hall.
All this is in an effort to stay true to our mission statement - "Helping the people of ou
